Westminster Classic Tours
Some of the earliest archaeological gulet tours were run as study trips for budding classicists at Westminster School; it was when the parents began demanding to come, alerted by their returning sons’ wide-eyed descriptions of a land which had somehow passed them by, that Westminster Classic Tours was born.
The company has subsequently developed an unrivalled knowledge of the gulet scene and of southwest Turkey’s classical archaeology, and created seamless itineraries which combine onboard life and onshore visits to inspirational effect. It insists that its tour leaders are not only excellent communicators but also equally good company. These specialists, be they historians or archaeologists (or even travel writers), recognise that clients, whatever their age, may have varied priorities; idyllic swimming spots, daily paddles on the gulet’s kayak, clarifications on details of Ionic architecture, or the regular provision of sigara börek, that cheese-filled filo pastry meze which seduces most visitors to Turkey. The trick is ensuring that everybody gets the holiday they meant to have.
This is a company that excels at the cultured onboard house party; like-minded souls delighting in the joys of food and the sea, and the stories which the old stones tell.
